Dorothy Fix, a multi-media artist working in oil pastels, acrylics, and printmaking, is best known for her work in fibers. She is a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Surface Design Association: an American National Organization for Fiber Artists. She also established the fiber program at Towson University where she is now Professor Emerita.

When Dorothy painted "Celestial Light, Sacred Mountain," and "Eclipse," she was "trying to discover what kind of images would come to me if I would sit before my easel in a quiet state with my eyes closed. These two powerful images...appeared within my mind's eye through this quiet receiving."

Recent work reflects Dorothy's exploration of her Native American heritage; her great-grandmother was a Cherokee Indian. After travelling to various indigenous sites throughout the Americas, Dorothy has noticed a correspondence between recurring motifs in her work such as the spiral, bird, hand, snake, skeleton, heart and mountain, and symbols on artifacts at those sites.

Dorothy, whose work is popular with private collectors, exhibits regularly in galleries in Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Annapolis, Maryland, as well as nationally throughout of United States. She has also curated exhibitions, including four major craft and fiber exhibitions at Towson Unitversity and national juried exhibitions for SICA.
